Differences between a pilot ladder and a Jacob’s ladder

Ladders are used to allow access over the side of ships, and as a result pilot’s ladders are often incorrectly called Jacob’s ladders. A pilot ladder has specific rules about the size of the steps, the spacing and the use of cross braces. It is the use of crossheads on a pilot scale that distinguishes it from a Jacob scale.

What is the crosshead on a ship?

The spreader is a fixed structural element that is part of the rigging of sailboats. These are bars perpendicular to the mast, which are sometimes slightly inclined towards the stern.

Your WCI Pilot Ladder family knows the standards that these items must meet to guarantee the safety of the crew and other maritime professionals boarding the ship.   In order to become your most reliable pilot ladders supplier, we manufacture our pilot ladders under compliance with SOLAS.

We can make A-Type and B-Type, according to the ship´s requirement.
