The importance of the mooring ropes on board

Mooring ropes are those used to fix the boat to a dock or to another boat. Depending on the direction in which the mooring lines work, they are classified as follows:

LONG

The so-called long mooring line is the one that is directed from the bow or from the fin towards the dock and/or from the stern or the tack towards the dock. In other words, they are mooring lines that extend away from the stern or bow of the boat.

The length of the bow has the function of moving the boat forward when we collect or collect the line, while the length of the stern will move the boat backwards when charging.

THROUGH

The rope called through is the one in a direction perpendicular to the line from bow to stern. These mooring lines can be made firm at the bow, stern or amidships and are useful in preventing the boat from separating from the dock.

Beam lines will bring the boat closer to the dock when hauling or pulling on them.

SPRING

They are those that are directed diagonally towards the beam from the bow or stern, working in the opposite direction to their lengths.

The bow spin will make the boat move backwards when charging, while the stern spin will make the boat move forward when pulling.

ELBOW SUPPORT

The mooring line known as encoder is the one that is directed to a buoy or another vessel on the opposite side of the dock with the aim of separating the ship from the same dock, crossing it or keeping it in a specific position.
